Luigi Mangione, 26, of Towson, Maryland is the suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last Tuesday. He was identified by a college friend from the University of Pennsylvania.

He is said to be an anti-Capitalist socialist grad student. He has written posts deriding profits for corporations. On social media, he asliked online quotes from "Unabomber'' Ted Kaczynski raging against the country's medical community

Mangione is also a former prep school valedictorian of his 2016 high school graduating class at the Gilman School in Baltimore, where he played soccer. Tuition at the all-boys school is nearly $40,000 a year.

Mangione has no prior arrests and no record with law enforcement. He did not resist arrest when recognized at a McDonald's and taken into custody.

Mangione is one of six children and said he intended to study AI at the University of Pennsylvania when he graduated. The Gilman School is a $40,000-a-year all-boys school in Baltimore.

Mangione had shared a quote online from "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski before he was caught. "Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness," a Kaczynski quote liked by Mangione read.

Mangione Family released a statement offering prayers for the Thompson family.

The Mangione family is known throughout the Baltimore region. The grandfather, Nick Mangione Sr., purchased Turf Valley Country Club in Ellicott City in the 1970s and then developed the golf course community. The family purchased another country club in the 1980s. They also own nursing home company Lorien Health Services as well as radio station WCBM-AM, which airs right-leaning programs.
