SUV Kills Homeless Woman Sleeping on Santa Monica Beach Thursday Night

A tragic incident occurred late last night on a Santa Monica beach when a woman was struck and killed by an SUV while on the sand. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was trapped beneath the vehicle after being hit. Authorities confirmed the accident happened around 11:30 p.m. She is believed to have been homeless.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and attempted to rescue the woman, but she was pronounced dead after being wedged under the SUV. The driver, who has been arrested, is currently in custody. Details regarding the driver’s identity and the circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation.

The driver, a 21- year-old male operating a 2015 Infiniti SUV, who remained on scene, was reported to be driving in circles at high speeds on the sand when he ran over the victim. Following a DUI investigation, the suspect was arrested and preliminarily charged with the following:

• 23152(a) VC- Driving under the influence

• 23105 VC - Reckless Driving

• 191.5(a) PC – Gross Vehicular Manslaughter
