* DNA checks underway

* Official announcement on killing of architect of October7 massacre, pending

* Hamas also yet to confirm its leader has been killed

* The IDF says no signs of hostages nearby

*101 hostages remain in captivity - no clarity how many hostages are alive.

Photos surfaced online Thursday allegedly showing the body of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who Israeli officials suspect may have been killed in a Thursday gun battle. One striking image depicts a body believed to be Sinwar, partially buried in rubble and surrounded by three Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers. However, the identity of the man in the image has not been officially verified.

The Israeli military has launched an investigation into Sinwar's possible death. Reports suggest that one of the three terrorists killed in a southern Gaza airstrike may have been the Hamas chief, responsible for planning the October 7 attacks.

Yahya Sinwar's crumbled body in debris in Gaza. Or perhaps a man who simply resembles the terrorist.

Preliminary DNA Evidence confirmed that the body in fact was Yahya Sinwar.

"During IDF operations in Gaza, three terrorists were eliminated," the military said in a statement. "The IDF and ISA [Israel Security Agency] are checking the possibility that one of the terrorists was Yahya Sinwar. At this stage, the identity of the terrorists cannot be confirmed."

President Joe Biden is being kept informed about the investigation into Sinwar's alleged death as he travels to Berlin, according to U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

Hamas has not confirmed or denied Sinwar's death but cautioned people on Telegram to beware of "fake news" and to rely only on official statements from the group.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed that there is no indication that any hostages were harmed in the strike that killed the three terrorists.
