The Daily Santa Monica Crime and Drug Video - October 7, 2024

Santa Monica's City Council thinks the city is just fine. One councilmember called the homeless residents our neighbors, their wants and desires equivalent to those of people who pay rent and pay taxes. The 'freedom' of some, most of whom suffer from drug addiction and mental illness, to live in filth, disease and to commit crimes with impunity, is valued over the ability of the rest of society to live healthy lives in law and order.

Are any of us in Santa Monica, inside our homes, carports, storefronts, restaurants or hotel lobbies, safe from unprovoked attacks? Should we be safe at our Police Station? Is this good governance? Are these attacks on so many of us the lasting "souvenir" we want to gift even our tourists? City Manager David White and his staff have taken the entire spring and summer to determine from what other programs funds can be transferred to hire 100 more officers Police Chief Batista has publicly said he needs for the last 2 years! SMPD's Downtown unit is now reduced from about 34 sworn Officers to 14. All are working overtime. The "Big Boss", City Manager David White, must be fired or the City will face a large collective lawsuit. How comfortable do our City's private unarmed (not even allowed mace) security guards and ambassadors on the Promenade and in our Parks feel today? Public safety is a human right.
