Meet the Newest Special Needs Kittens

Kitten season is still going strong and the shelters are incredibly full. We have primarily been rescuing cats and dogs from San Bernardino the past few months since we got our Intervention Program back up and running. The city shelter there is overflowing with animals - so much so that cats are now housed in an empty school and small dogs are kept in cat cages. We are doing our best to rescue as many animals as possible and find them loving homes.

We rescued Eloise last week after receiving a plea for help. We have a soft spot for blind kittens and couldn't say no to this little girl who had been found alone outside in Rialto. She is eight-weeks-old and will need both eyes removed when she is a little bigger. In the meantime, she is loving the indoor life, purring away on her blankets surrounded by new toys.

A few days after rescuing Eloise, we took in a six-week-old kitten named Applesauce. He was scheduled for euthanasia at the San Bernardino shelter due to his deformity. Both of his back legs are twisted, likely from being overcrowded in the womb. He will be seeing a surgeon at ASEC this week to see if anything can be done to straighten his legs, but Applesauce gets around surprisingly well. His upper body strength is impressive and he is a happy and playful little pal.
