Crime and Drug Video for September 26, 2024

Santa Monica's City Council thinks the city is just fine. One councilmember called the homeless residents our neighbors, their wants and desires equivalent to those of people who pay rent and pay taxes. The 'freedom' of some, most of whom suffer from drug addiction and mental illness, to live in filth, disease and to commit crimes with impunity, is valued over the ability of the rest of society to live healthy lives in law and order.

Watch the videos shot and distributed by the Santa Monica Coalition, a different one each day, to see what is actually happening in a city that is no longer a magnet for tourists and shoppers.

The Santa Monica Coalition is a movement comprised of Santa Monica residents, business owners, and locals that addresses the humanitarian crisis, public safety concerns, the rising crime, and the current lack of responsiveness from the City of Santa Monica.

In Santa Monica, 3rd Street Promenade's "Downtown Santa Monica, Inc." (DTSM), a nonprofit controlled by the City, has failed to manage, market and provide safe and clean public spaces, walkways and parking garages. Its CEO, ANDREW THOMAS, is requesting ANOTHER annual PAY RAISE and BONUS. Unlike a true 'Business Improvement District', property owners are involuntarily assessed to fund a $10 million annual budget. 38% of the Promenade is vacant, most tenants are 'pop-up' month-to-month, and 90% experience theft on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. The adjacent Santa Monica Place Mall was recently foreclosed on. 86% of residents do NOT feel safe and refuse to come Downtown. 59 property owners are planning to leave the DTSM organization altogether. DTSM's Board of Directors will meet in private today at 4 PM to discuss CEO ANDREW THOMAS' request for a pay raise and bonus. Email Santa Monica's Mayor, DTSM Board, City Clerk, and City Council to let them know how you feel.
