How the Homeless See Santa Monica

A list of what Santa Monica is getting wrong, from a self-described 40-year homeless individual, writing on Nextdoor

Nextdoor

DEAR SANTA MONICA

If housed residents knew what's it like to be homeless in Santa Monica, they'd be pissed off and lose any respect you might have for the everyone in control, and the police don't help homeless people, they lie, intimidate, criminalize and ignore them but voters already know it's only getting worse regardless of who they vote for

Same old bs, nothing new to see here folks

The city approved nonprofits like " step up" move the worst of them into luxury apartments, yet leave the vulnerable and innocent ones outside to be victimized, left for dead to bear the elements without life saving shelter

They prioritize the ones that are a serious threat to the community and gaslight the rest. That's 100% counterproductive and counterintuitive. Pride and ego keeps most nimbys from realizing the golden rule

Meanwhile the yimbys are turning a blind eye to the fact that criminals are mostly welcome in a city that will never run them out of town or post their face on billboards or the walls

Criminals laugh at this situation and the residents have NO CLUE because they don't know the homeless personally, otherwise I wouldn't have say it

I have 40 years of homeless experience and ten of those years is in SM

I served as the Resident President of SAMOSHEL housing program in 2017

( It's NOT A Walk-in shelter, it takes years & years to get a bed) and I learned more than any person could have about the homeless situation unless you were there too, connecting with everyone around me, listening to their life stories and watching were everyone ends up and keeping in touch with them to see how things pan out for them

Nextdoor

The city won't admit it, but I've learned that our Community desperately needs these things

1. an actual WALK-in shelter

2. an actual park STRICTLY 4 the mentally ill

3. Actual services that includes laundry and a shower at the same time

4. Free Bus tickets for ANY homeless/stranded person with or without an ID, after a finger print scan of course

5. A place where the homeless can get food 8 straight hours every day

6. An outreach team like West Coast Care SM that Operates everywhere in the city, not just on the beach in the mornings

7. 24/7 restrooms like they have on the pier

8. Wall outlets and USB FAST CHARGING EVERYWHERE FOR ALL PEDESTRIANS

9. A women's shelter for WOMEN ONLY

10. A city council and MAYOR that puts themselves in the shoes of the unsheltered for a week every 6 months to guarantee a feedback loop for optimal quality of life for all

United We Stand - for each other

Or Divided We Fall - for the same BS

BOTTOM LINE,

THE CITY COUNCIL IS NOT HUMANE

that's why we have an animal shelter

But no Real walk-in HUMAN SHELTER
