Santa Monica's Newest Chic Rooftop Bar: The Coco Club

Cocktails, Views, and Vibes

Imagine stepping into a space that feels like a time capsule of old Hollywood glamour, yet with a modern, laid-back California vibe. That's exactly what The Coco Club in Santa Monica offers---a rooftop retreat where the spirit of iconic Los Angeles destinations from the past mingles with the breathtaking views of today.

As you ascend to The Coco Club, you're greeted by a panoramic vista that stretches from Venice Beach to the Malibu Coastline. Look straight out to the left and see the iconic Santa Monica Pier. The carousel looks amazing lit up at night. The name 'Coco Club' itself pays tribute to two legendary L.A. spots, the Cocoanut Grove and the Coconut Club, echoing the city's rich history of nightlife.

Inside, the ambiance is a blend of sophistication and comfort. Birds-of-paradise wallpaper, saffron-colored chandeliers, and Art Deco accents create a chic and welcoming atmosphere. Despite the low ceilings, the clever design makes the space feel open and airy, perfect for soaking in the coastal views.

The cocktail experience here is exceptional, thanks to the renowned bartender Dushan Zaric. Each drink is a work of art, meticulously crafted and bursting with flavor. The menu delights the palate, whether you're in the mood for a classic cocktail or a creative concoction.

Pair your drinks with light bites by Chef Chris Sayegh, served from 8 pm onwards. The combination of flavors and the stunning backdrop elevate the experience to something truly special. I especially loved the bar stools along the railing on the outside patio. The perfect place to sit, sip on a cocktail and watch the sunset.

The brand-new food menu debuted on Friday, August 9th. Curated by esteemed Chef Chris Sayegh of the neighboring Mediterranean restaurant, Layla. The menu features a variety of contemporary offerings; highlights include:

Grilled Red Snapper Tacos - fermented Fresno and lime coleslaw

80/20 Beef Burger - caramelized onion, bacon, cheddar cheese, passion fruit BBQ sauce, bibb lettuce on a toasted potato bun

Fried Hot Chicken Sandwich - pineapple slaw, swiss cheese

Braised Short Rib and Mushroom Tacos - fermented Fresno and lime coleslaw

Madagascar Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta - passion fruit mousse, passion fruit coulis, white opalys, crunchy pearl, micro mint

Pair dishes with handcrafted cocktails like the Drunk in Love, a tequila-infused drink made with tequila blanco, agave, watermelon juice, and a splash of lime, or opt for the Coco Colada, a twist on the traditional frozen Pina Colada with spicy mango and citrus. On weekends, visitors can enjoy regular live entertainment after 10 p.m., featuring sounds from local DJs performing vibrant house music and open-format sets.

What truly sets The Coco Club apart is its ambiance. House music fills the air, adding to the vibrant energy of the night. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, making it the perfect setting for a memorable evening.

For me, visiting The Coco Club was like discovering a hidden gem- a place where history meets contemporary cool and where every detail, from the cocktails to the decor, tells a story. It's ideal for catching up with friends, enjoying a romantic date, or unwinding after a long day.

Whether you're a local or just passing through, The Coco Club promises an experience that captures the essence of Santa Monica living. It's more than a rooftop bar; it's a journey through time and taste set against California's stunning coastline. This could very well be the hottest place to go this summer.

For a great evening with friends, dine at Layla (in the lobby), take the vintage elevator to the roof, grab a seat on the outside patio and indulge in a beautifully crafted cocktail. The magic of The Coco Club and the very potent drinks will transport you.
