5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Centered 62 Miles West of Mettler, CA at a depth of 6 miles.

There were six aftershocks greater than Magnitude 3, within the 15 minutes following the main shock.

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake was felt as a rolling motion in Santa Monica, CA around 9:10 pm PST. The earthquake was centered 99 kilomers (about 61 miles) West of Mettler, California. It was at a depth of 6 miles.

"I felt this quake for a change. A M5.2 located at the southern end of the Central Valley. It is near the White Wolf fault that produced a M7.5 in 1952 but does not appear to be on that fault." Tweeted Caltech's Dr. Lucy Jones.

There were six aftershocks greater than Magnitude 3, within the 15 minutes following the main shock.

5.2 is regarded as a moderate earthquake. The world experiences about 1500 of them per year.

Mettler lies right where the 5 and the 99 freeways split off. It is in Kern County not far from Bakersfield, the County Seat.
