Community, Diversity, Sustainability and other Overused Words
July 26, 2024 - Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsay Horvath is lying About Santa Monica. She recently said in an emailed statement:
"County partners with Venice Family Clinic to provide harm reduction services for up to three hours each week in Santa Monica. Through harm reduction and other efforts, deaths among people experiencing homelessness held steady for the first time since 2015, as opposed to continual increases the County had historically seen." Horvath added that since the County and the City of Santa Monica declared states of emergency on homelessness, there has been a 20% decrease in homelessness on the Westside.
In that statement Supervisor Lindsay Horvath told two lies.
1. Deaths among people experiencing homelessness in Santa Monica did not "hold steady" because The Venice Family Clinic is handing out needles and meth pipes in parks and public spaces. Just the opposite. Santa Monica is experiencing a record number of overdoses and deaths because of that program. My friends have personally rescued multiple overdosed drug addicts with Narcan in the past few years.
Here's an article which discusses a 1038% increase in drug overdoses in Skid Row in the past six years. This 1038% increase in drug overdoses contradicts what Supervisor Lindsay Horvath is alleging about the effectiveness of her "harm reduction" program. If "harm reduction" works, then why are so many more people overdosing in places where "harm reduction" is being implimented?
2. There has not been a 20% decrease in homelessness on the Westside since everyone declared a "state of emergency" on homelessness. Just the opposite. There has been a substantial increase in homelessness on the Westside since everyone declared a "state of emergency" on homelessness. I can see it with my own eyes. There are more homeless drug addicts in Santa Monica than ever. There are more homeless encampments in Santa Monica than ever. More of my neighbors are reporting being assaulted than ever.
Here's a link to Santa Monica City Government's website which outlines a 15% increase in homelessness from 2022-2023. This is the direction Santa Monica is going in:
Santa Monica Releases 2023 Homeless Count Results (https://www.santamonica.gov/press/2023/05/04/santa-monica-releases-2023-homeless-count-results-and-previews-recommended-approach-to-homelessness)
Nobody has a plan for the "state of emergency" on homelessness. Nobody has a timeline for completion. Handing out needles and meth pipes isn't working.
There's a sign on Santa Monica's Promenade with Supervisor Lindsay Horvath's face on it. The sign says "Mount Drugsmore," and it calls out Lindsay Horvath and others for supporting a policy of handing out needles and meth pipes in parks and public spaces where drug use is prohibited.
Santa Monica's City Government is trying to get the "Mount Drugsmore" sign removed, but it's backfiring. In the process of trying to get the sign removed, the City of Santa Monica is bringing awareness to the "Mount Drugsmore" problem.
Most Santa Monica Residents have no idea that the crazy drug addicts assaulting them are being supplied by the Venice Family Clinic at the behest of people like Supervisor Lindsay Horvath, City Manager David White, Council Member Gleam Davis, and Director of Health Barbara Ferrer.
Most Santa Monica Residents have no idea that Los Angeles County is spending thirty one million dollars a year on "harm reduction."
L.A. County wants to curb riskier fentanyl use. Its approach worries some activists (https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-05-30/desperate-to-stop-fentanyl-deaths-officials-are-distributing-drug-pipes)
People like Supervisor Lindsay Horvath are promoted for keeping that business going. That's why she's lying about Santa Monica. And that's why she's on Mount Drugsmore.
