Recently renovated and reopened with a fresh new look and menu, Hank's embraces classic Americana restaurant culture under the leadership of renowned restaurateur Tancredi DeLuca, known for Angelini Ristorante & Bar, Trattoria Amici, Ombra Wine Bar, and EMILIA. This revitalization unveiled an updated interior and an enticing new American Bistro menu, aiming to establish Hank's as a welcoming spot for locals and visitors alike.
Hank's inviting atmosphere, with its outdoor patio, indoor bar, and ample seating, creates a spacious yet cozy setting for groups to gather and enjoy their dining experience. The restaurant offers quality dining that aligns with its mid-to-upper price range. Cocktails priced around $18 reflect a higher-end bar experience, while main courses ranging from $25 to $35 indicate a moderately upscale dining atmosphere. Hank's commitment to using organic and locally sourced ingredients ensures that every dish showcases the vibrant flavors of California cuisine. With its upscale yet approachable ambiance, Hank's is ideal for casual get-togethers and special family dinners, delivering fresh and flavorful dishes to guests.
We started our evening with some expertly crafted cocktails. I opted for the "Strawberry Fields," a refreshing blend of Patron Silver Tequila, El Silencio Mezcal, lime juice, agave, strawberries, and Creole bitters. This cocktail struck a perfect balance-not too sweet, with a hint of strawberry reminiscent of a classic margarita. We also enjoyed the "Heard it Through The Grapevine," made with Suntory Roku Gin, Nonino L'Aperitivo, lemon, and green grapes, offering a refreshing and slightly tart twist.
Another standout cocktail was the "Chocolate Almond Old Fashioned," featuring Makers Mark bourbon, Amaretto, and chocolate bitters. Its rich, nutty flavor was a decadent treat. Each cocktail was impeccably mixed and served, setting a wonderful tone for our evening at Hank's.
With such enticing appetizers and salads, deciding was no easy task. Ultimately, we settled on trying the Grilled Artichoke; what a great choice! This artichoke had a subtle smoky flavor and was served with a tangy remoulade dipping sauce. It was butterflied, making it perfect for sharing between two people, allowing us to enjoy the heart of this delicious dish. Another favorite is the French Onion Soup, featuring caramelized onions simmered in rich beef jus, topped with country bread and Emmenthal cheese.
The Iceberg Wedge offered a refreshing combination of crisp lettuce, bacon, tomatoes, and creamy blue cheese dressing. Meanwhile, the Shrimp Louie salad stood out with its flavorful mix of plump shrimp, gem lettuce, and creamy Louis dressing. This dish was a highlight of our meal!
For our main course, we selected the Herb Roasted Jidori Chicken accompanied by sweet corn and roasted mushrooms. The chicken was exceptionally tender, well-seasoned, and bursting with flavor. Additionally, we enjoyed the Pan Seared Salmon served with creamy polenta and charred broccoli.
The salmon was perfectly cooked and complemented by a delicious chimichurri sauce. Hank's is also known for its award-winning cheeseburger, made with ground chuck, American cheese, melted onions, crisp iceberg lettuce, and their signature 'awesome sauce.' The mouthwatering Steak Frites features prime flatiron steak with caramelized shallots, herb butter, and crispy fries. I'm eager to return to Hank's and indulge in their Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup. This comforting dish features Emmenthal and Comte cheese, caramelized onions, and sourdough-perfect for warming up on a rainy day.
We indulged in the Warm Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Brownie paired with creamy vanilla ice cream to conclude our meal. This dessert seemed decadent at first glance but perfectly balanced sweetness with a touch of sea salt. This brownie was exceptionally satisfying and easily one of the best I've ever had.
Hank's thoughtful consideration for families is evident in their dedicated kids' menu, making dining hassle-free for all guests. The restaurant atmosphere was lively yet relaxed, catering to various dining preferences throughout the evening. Early on, families with children populated the space, but as the night progressed, it transitioned into a more relaxed setting, a testament to Hank's versatility in catering to various dining preferences.
The service at Hank's was exceptional, adding to the overall positive experience. The staff was attentive and accommodating, ensuring each guest felt welcome and cared for.
