Community, Diversity, Sustainability and other Overused Words
Presented by Greg Schrifer
Upon stepping onto the second floor, I was immediately enveloped in the rich tapestry of Fernanda Lavera's neo-expressionist world. Each stroke on her canvases resonates with a profound message, beckoning admirers into a dialogue with their souls.
For Lavera, this exhibition is not merely a showcase of artistic prowess; it's a spiritual journey, an impassioned plea to embrace life's intricacies and resist the allure of mindless consumption. Her activism, particularly on issues of gender violence and the plight of women, finds its voice in her works' vibrant hues and haunting imagery. The canvases undergo a metamorphosis under Lavera's skilled hand, infused with a symphony of reds, blues, yellows, and greens. Through masterful color blends, faces blur, shapes contort, and vivid expressions collide, offering a glimpse into the depths of
Lavera's unconscious. Each element shape, symbol, or object catalyzes contemplation, urging viewers to delve deeper, question, and hunger for more.
Hailing from the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lavera draws inspiration from a rich tapestry of artistic influences. From the visionary works of Antonio Berni to the audacious strokes of Basquiat, Picasso, and Paul Gauguin, her eclectic palette mirrors her diverse sources of inspiration. I'm Not A Robot, Lavera's latest offering, is presented under the guidance of Greg Schrifer, her steadfast agent of nearly a decade, marking yet another milestone in her artistic journey.
I'm at the computer filling out some online forms, and once again, a series of urban images and symbols appear on the screen, drawing my full attention: bicycles, traffic lights, signs, and signals that we have to accept. I'm not a robot. It reflects not going so fast in a society of automatic consumption-yellow, light blues, and pink mark my canvas.
