Program to Encourage Women to Participate in Disaster Awareness

SACRAMENTO – As Women's History Month enters its fourth week, the Listas Campaign is proud to launch the participation of the First Partner of California Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Recognizing the vital role California women play as leaders and changemakers in their own families and communities, the Listas Campaign has been empowering women with emergency resiliency knowledge this past month and will continue to do so into April.

"As moms, we shoulder so much of the invisible- yet vital- work of caring for our families' needs in both times of calm and times of chaos," said First Partner Siebel Newsom. "That's why in California, we're working around the clock to empower women with emergency resiliency knowledge so we can help ourselves and our families during trying times like natural disasters."

So far, the Listas Campaign, through the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), has done the following in March since the announcement:

Ahead of schedule already making 330,000 meaningful calls with California moms, signing up thousands for local emergency alerts through community-focused phone banking teams

Innovative social media assets including more than 70 unique digital and video pieces featuring California women highlighting how they prepare their families

Key emergency manager and leader videos providing helpful preparedness information to other families

Dedicated web-based resource hub with all the above resources

"We are honored to have California's First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom as part of the Listas Campaign, focusing on key disaster readiness tips," said Cal OES Director Nancy Ward. "She has championed various initiatives to support families and women, making strides to build economic equity, equal representation and advance a family-first agenda."

Educating women in communities statewide, the Listas Campaign provides the knowledge needed for women to lead their families during natural disasters, such as wildfires, earthquakes, floods and mudslides.

This Campaign is part of an ongoing effort by Cal OES, through Listos California, to enhance disaster resiliency statewide in at-risk, disaster-prone areas by engaging thousands of community partners, non-profit organizations, tribal governments, Community Emergency Response Teams and other organizations.
