All six Sweet Lady Jane locations in West Hollywood, Los Angeles and Santa Monica suddenly shuttered in January, but reopened in March
Specialty cake and pastry store Sweet Lady Jane is alive and doing well on Montana Avenue. The stores are now owned by a couple, Matthew and Julie, explained the counter gal we spoke to. Previously they had been owned by a couple in their 70's, who decided to close the chain abruptly ten weeks ago.
"We're doing really well," she said. "It's very busy here at the Montana Avenue location. We are making a lot of sales." She added that they are using the same recipes to make pastries as before the sale.
All six Sweet Lady Jane locations in West Hollywood, LA and Santa Monica suddenly shuttered in January. The LA Times reported that a claim or claims by employees for overtime wages, forced the closure of the small chain.
The Santa Monica store was delayed further in reopening by an apparent code violation regarding a renovation, but that appears to have been resolved. Some items have not yet returned to the menu but we are told they will.
The final tweet from @sljcakeshop on January 1 2024, said: Dear Community, After 35 years we are closing our doors. Our last day of business was December 31, 2023. LA’s most beloved Triple Berry Cake will live on in your memories, and in ours.
Thank you. Sweet Lady Jane#sweetladyjane #sweetladyjanecakes #tripleberrycake
