Oakland City Council Declares the October 7th Hamas Massacre of 1200 Israelis "A Hoax."

Council unanimously approved resolution calling for ceasefire in Gaza, becoming second city in the Bay Area to formally signal support for Palestinians.

After hearing a number of speakers, the Oakland City Council declared Hamas' October 7th massacre of 1200 Israelis, mostly civilians, as "a hoax." "Calling Hamas a terrorist organization is ridiculous," said one female speaker.

Dozens of residents showed up to DEFEND Hamas. Some claimed calling them a terrorist organization is racist. Others denied the Oct 7 attack ever happened. The Council unanimously approved resolution calling for ceasefire in Gaza, becoming second city in the Bay Area to formally signal support for Palestinians. From NYPost.com:

Councilman Dan Kalb’s amendment spotlighting Hamas’ role in the slaughter of an estimated 1,200 people across southern Israel was rejected 6-2.

The proposal was met by boos from demonstrators, who condemned the language as “anti-Arab” — with some going as far as to spread conspiracy theories that the Israel Defense Forces had slaughtered Jews to justify an invasion of Gaza. “There have not been beheading of babies and rapings. Israel murdered their own people on Oct. 7,” one woman told the city council.

With a population of 440,000 people, Oakland is the largest city in Alameda County. It has been deeply affected by California's recent lawlessness, with numerous smash and grabs, drug crimes and other violations perpetrated mostly by its homeless residents. Some on twitter questioned why a City with obvious municipal problems, would take time to pass a resolution about a part of the world 8000 miles away from itself.

"Governance in California in a nutshell. Won't positively effect a single person, but the local political class will crow that it's a victory while poverty, crime and homelessness continue to increase," tweeted Abe Froman.

"What about passing a resolution for a ceasefire on the streets of #Oakland?" tweeted Alex Seliger.

“It was an emotional, often contentious meeting as the council dismissed a change that would’ve directly blamed Hamas for “repression and violence” in Gaza,” tweeted Shomik Mukherjee, who attended.
