Video: Nevada Police Bust Up Demonstration Blocking Nevada Road into Burning Man Sunday August 27th

Nevada Rangers pulled guns and drove through the road block, arresting six or eight protestors for trespassing on tribal lands. Climate activists had blocked traffic into Burning Man on August 27th. Traffic had been backed up on a Nevada highway to California in August heat, and no doubt the drivers and passengers in hundreds of vehicles were suffering in 105 degree desert heat.

Videos posted online showed about half a dozen protesters from Seven Circles blocking a rural road. They chained themselves onto a trailer which they placed across the 2 lane highway. They were surrounded by banners reading "Burners of the World, Unite!," "Abolish Capitalism" and "General Strike for Climate."

Comments on Twitter cheered the tribal police for doing what US Police in urban areas would never dare to do: Physically break up a road block type protest, with no concern about being filmed or accused of police brutality.

"This area of Nevada has treacherous heat. People backed up on these roads with children and animals in their cars could be in a life-threatening situation with no services for miles. These climate clowns are dangerous. This is the way to deal with them," tweeted James Woods.

The group told the New York Post that the protest was designed to draw attention to "capitalism's inability to address climate's ecological breakdown" and was meant as a protest against the "popularization of Burning Man among affluent people who do not live the stated values of Burning Man, resulting in the commodification of the event."

Seven Circles specifically claims that the annual arts and counter-culture festival's goal of being carbon-negative by 2030 is "insufficient to tackle the pressing crisis."
