Transgender Female to Male Shoots and Kills Six at Covenant Christian School in Nashville; 3 Adults, 3 Children Dead

When she was a girl, she had previously been a student at the school, police were investigating a motive

A 28 year old woman who considered herself transgender, shot up a private Christian school called "Covenant Christian School" in Nashville, Tennessee Monday morning, 3/27. Officers engaged and killed the shooter at the Covenant School, Nashville police spokesperson Don Aaron said. The shooter was a 28-year-old Nashville woman, police said.

Females constitute less than 1% of all mass shooters, experts said.

Three children and two adults were taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt with gunshot wounds, and all five were pronounced dead there, said Craig Boerner, spokesperson for Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The sixth victim was not taken to the hospital, Aaron said.

The shooter was armed with at least two "assault-type rifles" and a handgun, Aaron said. Officials were in the process of identifying the shooter and the victims, he said.

Audrey Hale lived in the Nashville area. Police searched her home, and investigating a motive. It was said that she had been a student at the school.

Drake previously said police are looking into whether Hale’s gender identity played a role in the slaughter. It’s unclear whether Hale identified as man or a woman, but police have referred to her using female pronouns.

Hale used male pronouns and the name Aiden on some social media accounts.

“Her parents felt she should not own weapons … they were under the impression that when she sold the one weapon that she did not own any more,” Drake added.
