Three Great Award Shows 2023! The Hollywood Critics Association HCA Awards, The 50th Annual Annie Awards, and The American Cinema Editors ACE Eddie Awards 2023

This past month was a whirl-wind of exciting pre-Oscar 2023 Award shows in Los Angeles.

The Hollywood Critics Association HCA Film Awards 2023 was held on Friday February 24, 2023 at The Beverly Wilshire Hotel, 9500 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills. The comedian Tig Notaro hosted the ceremony.

The Hollywood Critics Association was established in 2016 with the objective to highlight and elevate diverse and underrepresented voices within the world of entertainment criticism and journalism.

A24’S “Everything Everywhere All At Once” took home the most awards of the evening the with seven wins in the following categories: Best Editing, Best Cast Ensemble, Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, and Best Picture.

Variance Films “RRR” received four wins with Best Original Song, Best Stunts, Best Action Film, and Best International Film. Taylor Swift won Best Short Film for “All Too Well: The Short Film.

The HCA granted five Honorary Awards, including the “Spotlight Award” presented to the cast and crew of RRR, the “Artisan Achievement Award” presented to Rick Carter, the “Acting Achievement Award” presented to Angela Bassett, the “Filmmaking Achievement Award “was given to Rian Johnson , and the “ Star on the Rise Award” presented to Gabriel La Belle.

The 50th Annual Annie Awards by ASIFA-Hollywood` was held on Saturday February 25, 2023 at UCLA Royce Hall, 340 Royce Drive, Los Angeles 90095.

“Guillermo de Toro’s Pinocchio” was the huge film winner at the 5Oth Anniversary Annie Awards, taking home the Best Feature prize, as well as the feature film awards for Best Character Animation, Best Direction, Best Music, and Best Production Design.

“Marcel the Shell with Shoes on” was awarded Best Indie Feature, as well as Best Voice Acting for co-creator Jenny Slate and Best Writing Feature.

In the TV categories, ‘’ Bob’s Burgers,” “Love Death + Robots” and “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” all took home awards!

Disney CEO Bob Iger presented the Winsor Mc Cay Award to three time Oscar-winning Pixar CEO Pete Doctor.

There was a beautiful outdoor party following the ceremony. It’s unfortunate that it was pouring rain and by the time the waiters distributed rain ponchos, many attendees left.

The 73RD American Cinema Editors ACE Eddie Awards 2023 was held on Sunday March 5, 2023 at UCLA Royce Hall, 340 Royce Drive, Los Angeles. The show was hosted by Nicole Black.

“Top Gun: Maverick “editor Eddie Hamilton, and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” editor Paul Rogers collected trophies for Best Edited Dramatic Feature and Comedy Feature subsequently.

George Carlin’s “American Dream” won the non-theatrical documentary award and HBO’S “The White Lotus” won for Best Edited Limited Series.

Sanaa Lathan (Love & Basketball Star) presented The 2023 ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award to” The Woman king director” Gina Prince-Bythewood.
