Suspect Overdoses in Santa Monica Police Dept. Custody While Being Transported to SM Jail

"He has not been booked yet but from what I understand he was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon (pipe)."

One suspect was transported to UCLA Hospital in Westwood after he overdosed en route to the Santa Monica Jail.

"Male suspect arrested by SMPD Officers was being transported to our jail when he claimed that he was overdosing on a drug. He was at the entrance of our jail before being transported to a local hospital to be medically cleared. He never made it inside our jail," writes Lt. Rudy Flores, SMPD public information officer.

"He has not been booked yet but from what I understand he was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon (pipe)."

"The Santa Monica Police Department's Jail is regulated by the Board of State and Community Corrections and Title 15 of the California Code of Regulations. It is a state-of-art, Type I, modular pre-arraignment facility that holds both male and female adult arrestees for up to 96 hours. The facility has a capacity to house a maximum of 92 inmates," according to the website.
