Suspect had previously been a handyman in the Bishop's residence, and his wife was the Bishop's housekeeper.
LA County Sheriff Robert Luna has identified the suspect in the February 18, 2023 murder of Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell as Carlos Medina, 65.
Suspect Medina is the husband of the Bishop's housecleaner, and drove an SUV. He had previously done work in the Bishop's residence. A tipster said Medina had left his Torrance CA home for Central California.
Homicide investigators served a warrant. They conducted callouts for Medina to surrender, but he refused to come out of his residents, said Sheriff Luna.
Luna said a search warrant was executed on Medina’s house early Monday morning but he refused to come out. Medina eventually surrendered and he was arrested around 8:15 a.m.
Detectives recovered two firearms at Medina’s residence, Luna said. Investigations are underway to determine if they were the same firearms used in O’Connell’s murder.
