More about the incredible Tranquility Massage
The Tranquility Massage at Burke Williams is a massage therapy that incorporates the healing effects of sound. The therapist uses various methods to help you relax and rejuvenate; they'll use practices similar to Swedish massage, the light touch of craniosacral therapy and various tonal sounds found in nature sounds and music. The use of sound bowl healing-like a sound bath-is also a big part of this particular massage. The Tranquility Massage is one of the most popular massages at Burke Williams, and it is perfect for those who want to relax and reduce stress.
What are vibrating bowls and sound therapy?
When it comes to relaxation, Burke Williams takes a unique approach with its Tranquility Massage. This massage therapy incorporates the healing effects of sound through vibrating bowls and sound therapy.
Sound therapy is an alternative self-care method that uses sound waves to promote healing. The therapist will use different instruments, such as crystal or metal bowls, to create different frequencies that can help to balance the mind and body.
Using Tibetan or Nepalese "singing" bowls, the therapist gently moves the bowls all over your body and strikes the rim with a mallet to create sound waves at specific touch points. These vibrations released from the bowls induce deep relaxation and healing. The vibrating bowls are placed on specific energy points on the body. The sound waves from the bowl help to release tension and promote relaxation. The therapist may also use essential oils during the massage to further help you relax.
This combination of vibrating bowls and sound therapy creates a powerful relaxation and stress-relief tool. If you're looking for a way to reduce stress and promote relaxation, Tranquility Massage at Burke Williams is worth considering.
Reasons to get a relaxing massage over a deep tissue massage when feeling stressed.
When it comes to massage therapy, there are many different types to choose from. I tend to always go for the deep tissue massage to work out any "knots" in my inflamed and painful muscle areas. Afterward, I'll spend time in the sauna, hot tub or steam room-or all three-and be as good as new the next day. A deep-tissue massage is a perfect way to treat muscle pain and improve stiffness, and I love it! The one thing I find happening during a deep tissue massage is that my mind tends to wander all over the place. I start to think about everything I have to do after the massage. It's still "me time" though, so I honestly can't complain, and I love how my body feels the next day.
Suppose you need a truly relaxing experience where your mind and body focus only on things happening right now in the present moment. In that case, a tranquility massage at Burke Williams is the perfect option. The sound bath is meant to create a feeling of being half awake and half asleep. This state of consciousness is called hypnagogia, and it's common to experience involuntary and imagined experiences during this time. Theta waves, a common marker of drowsiness, occur when a person is in this light sleep stage or in a relaxed, meditative state of mind. It's just like being on autopilot. With more theta activity, the benefit to our bodies is abundant; it can regenerate the mind, brain, and body, everything we need to feel good.
Personally, I loved this massage and found the various tonal sounds combined with the vibrations of the bowls on my body to be completely immersive. My mind didn't wander, and I found myself just concentrating on the sound and the vibrations. I felt completely serene and almost drifted off to sleep. The brain emits healing brainwaves in this meditative state, and the parasympathetic nervous system is activated. The reward is we get exactly what our body needs, especially during the holidays. I didn't realize how mellow I was feeling until after my massage when I detoured to the quiet room to chill and took a 20-minute nap. This is so unlike me, but I was in a state of pure relaxation and mental peace. It was amazing!
Here are just a few of the many reasons why you should consider getting a tranquility massage over a deep tissue massage if you're feeling stress from the holidays-or life in general:
1. Tranquility massages help to reduce stress and promote relaxation.
2. The healing effects of sound can help to improve your mood and overall sense of well-being.
3. Massages can help improve circulation, increase blood flow to your muscles, or relieve tension headaches.
4. They can also help to reduce pain and stiffness in your joints and muscles or reduce fatigue.
5. Tranquility massages are a great way to unwind after a long day or week.
Reasons to go to the spa
There are so many reasons to go to the Burke Williams Spa. I love the Santa Monica location on 4th Street and a parking lot is right next to it. Of course, whether you're planning a deep tissue massage, hot stone massage, facial or special body treatment, engaging in a self-care routine has been clinically proven to increase happiness, improve concentration and energy. There are various services they offer to help you relax and feel your best. In addition to massage therapy, you can enjoy facials, body treatments, nail and chiropractic services at select locations. There is also a social jacuzzi, a quiet jacuzzi, a steam room, a cold spray room and a sauna on-site, adding to your pleasure. In fact, I found myself, after five hours, still not wanting to leave.
Need a gift idea you'll be remembered for years from now? The Tranquility Massage, which uses the healing effects of sound to help you relax and de-stress, is my go-to gift this holiday season.
