On November 17, 2022, at about 9:40 PM, Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) Officers were dispatched to investigate a stabbing by the public restrooms in the 2100 block of Ocean Front Walk (OFW). Subsequent calls were then received of a male with a knife being detained by a citizen in the 2600 block of OFW.

SMPD Officers arrived and encountered the suspect, identified as Jamal K. Lampitt a 26-year-old homeless male, being held down by a citizen.
