City of Santa Monica Launches Online Resources to Support Local Job Seekers

The City of Santa Monica has joined forced with local businesses to provide new online resources to local residents looking for employment and to assist with the local economic recovery. 

The city's website has added a "new job listing" and employment resource page, which will be updated bi-weekly, to highlight local job opportunities and to encourage employers to hire local residents, city officials.   

"The City of Santa Monica is committed to supporting a strong and sustainable economic recovery for all in our community -- our youth, our families, and our businesses alike," said Interim City Manager Lane Dilg. "By connecting our employers to our residents, we strengthen the community ties that will hold us up as we recover together."

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 4,300 Santa Monica residents have been unemployed as of December 2020. City officials said that number was nearly 9,000 last June, and local government is ready to utilize new tools to get the numbers even lower. 

City officials said recent surveys found that 84% of Santa Monica businesses looking for new employees prefer to hire locally to sustain the local economy.  "$7 out of every $10 spent locally stays within Santa Monica, and the City is making a strong effort to ensure that buying locally and hiring locally are at the forefront of our economic recovery," said city officials. 

This new employment tool is part of the city's Economic Recovery Task Force to accelerate local efforts to recover from COVID-19.  It builds on last year's Ready to Work Webinar where local employment agencies, community and educational partners shared information about local employment and educational services.
