CEO Mike Roman responds that the masks are sold to the highest bidders: Agents representing foreign buyers.
3M corporation exports its entire production of N-95 Face masks, which are manufactured in the USA, overseas, reports FoxNews. This in the middle of an international pandemic, when countless healthcare providers have publicly pleaded for masks and other personal protective equipment. Many of them end up sick with Covid19.
CEO Mike Roman responded that the masks are sold to the highest bidders: Agents representing foreign buyers. "This is the standard practice in our industry," he said. Apparently during the middle of an historic pandemic.
3M corporation did not deny, that it ships its entire weekly production run of 10,000,000 masks, overseas. Moskowitz said he has paid for masks in advance, and 3M cannot tell him when they will fulfill his orders.
The report by Tucker Carlson included an interview with Jared Moskowitz, head of the Florida Division of Emergency Management. Moskowitz said he was running a "boilerroom operation" for the last week, trying to round up personal protective gear, and other needed medical items. Hesaid that he had offered to pay whatever the agents were paying for the masks. But that 3M said that's not how it works.
The report is certain to raise eyebrows, and attracted the attention of President Trump. He is known to watch Carlson almost every weeknight. Trump tweeted: "We hit 3M hard today after seeing what they were doing with their Masks. "P Act" all the way. Big surprise to many in government as to what they were doing - will have a big price to pay!"
"P Act" refers to the Defense Production Act, a World War II era statute that allows a president to command needed industries to produce what the US needs during wartime.
Carlson added that nearly all of 3M's face masks are shipped to buyers in Europe and Japan. "The idea that an American company is selling masks away from our hospitals...doctors...the real heroes on the front lines is... really criminal." said Moskowitz
No doubt Roman will have some explaining to do tomorrow, in order to keep his CEO job making $3,000,000 per year.
"Moskowitz claimed to have reached out to many 3M authorized distributors in the United States to confirm his suspicions, and said he was shocked to find American companies quietly partnering with foreign buyers at a time of national crisis." https://www.foxnews.com/media/florida-emergency-official-3m-selling-masks-overseas
Below is from 3M.com, the company’s website: “ At 3M, we are fully committed to helping fight the spread of COVID-19 by supporting the healthcare workers in the United States and worldwide.
This pandemic is affecting all of us, and we are doing everything we can to support public health – including doubling our global output of N95 respirators and getting them to healthcare providers on the front lines of the pandemic.
“We are mobilizing all available resources and rapidly increasing output of critical supplies healthcare workers in the United States and around the world need to help protect their lives as they treat others,” says Mike Roman, 3M chairman and chief executive officer.
We are working with governments, medical officials, customers and distributors around the world to help get supplies where they are needed most. ”
