Jewelry Store Robbery at 1621 Montana Avenue Friday Confirmed by SMPD

Female Suspect tried on rings at L'Oliphant Jewelry, then Fled with Them

Update, 1/07/17: From Rudy Flores, SMPD PIO: On 01/05/2018 at approximately 1540 hours, a grand theft and assault with a deadly weapon occurred at the L’Oliphant jewelry store, located at 1621 Montana Ave, Santa Monica. An unidentified female suspect entered the business and asked to try on several rings, then fled the business on foot wearing a ring and a eternity band valued at approximately $12,250. The victim followed the suspect into the alley and observed her entering a 4 door grey sedan (possibly newer BMW) driven by an unidentified black male. The victim was nearly struck by the suspect vehicle as it fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a female Black, 5'06''- 5'08'', 30 years old, wearing a floral shirt, black leggings, and tan Ugg style boots. The driver of the suspect vehicle is described only as a male Black.

1/5/17: Neighbors report that a car pulled up in front of jewelry store on Montana Avenue. Passengers jumped out and robbed the store. "I Was walking by and heard police discussing it," said one man on social media.

"Another jewelry store robbery? Lots of Police at the jewelry store near Sweet Lady Jane," said another post.

Montana Avenue is the affluent shopping street in Santa Monica. Montana Avenue is a primarily residential tree-lined street that stretches from Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California to the West L.A. Veterans Administration at Bringham Avenue in Brentwood. Montana Avenue continues East of the Veterans Administration in the Brentwood Glen neighborhood to Veteran Avenue at UCLA when it becomes Gayley Avenue. Gayley Avenue later becomes Midvale Avenue at its intersection with Wilshire Boulevard.

The intersection of Montana and Barrington is one of the busiest in the area, due to its proximity to the San Diego Freeway and Sunset Boulevard interchange. Montana Avenue is most famous for its upscale and chic shopping and dining portion from 7th to 17th Streets in Santa Monica.

Two elementary schools, Roosevelt and Franklin are also on Montana.

Homes north of Montana in the 90402 (Santa Monica) zip code are considered to be among the most expensive in Los Angeles County, ranging from 2.5 million to 30 million. South of Montana are mainly businesses, condos and single family homes.
