The World's Most Expensive Scorched Real Estate Along the #405Fire in Bel Air

It's not shocking to those used to Chaparral fires in So Cal, but blackened hillsides are visible during the drive through the Sepulveda pass on the 405 freeway in West Los Angeles.

This is an area where an undeveloped, 5000 square foot lot would have a theoretical value of $3,000,000 or more. So it may be the most expensive completely burned land on the planet.

The Skirball Center Fire, as it is sometimes known, fire burned 422 acres -- that's an area very close to the size of UCLA-- and caused the closure of the 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass, a major traffic artery in the city. The Skirball Cultural Center, Bel-Air Country Club, Getty Center, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, and various private schools were closed as a result of the fire.

Classes were cancelled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Santa Monica College, while Mount Saint Mary’s University evacuated from its Brentwood campus to its downtown Los Angeles location. As of December 9, the wildfire is 75% contained. As of December 10, 2017, the fire has destroyed 6 structures and damaged 12.
