Social Media Carrying Apocryphal Story of a man who has gamed Starbucks Rewards
There is an apocryphal story going around social media, that a man has figured out how to game the system so every day is his birthday, at Starbucks' corporation's expense.
"My neighbor bought 365 Starbucks Gift Cards & registered each card so now it's his "birthday" every day & gets free Starbucks," tweeted Hamza, in one version of the story.
"TIL a man bought 365 Starbucks Cards and registered each one for a different birthday, so he got a free birthday drink every day of the year"
We are told that the man, let's call him Grimsby, likes Starbucks "like guerrillas love bananas." But his job as an Uber driver won't pay for his caffeine addiction.
The solution: open 365 Starbucks Rewards accounts, and List a different birth date for each one. That's right, one for every day of the year.
"It's not like they check or anything" said Grimaby, enjoying his usual beverage, a Vente Sized Carmel Machiatto. "And the employees don't care how many days you come back," he said.
Starbucks Corporation is an American coffee company and coffeehouse chain. Starbucks was founded in Seattle, Washington in 1971. As of November 2016, it operates 23,768 locations worldwide. So there's no need to go to anyone location more than once--there are 30 in Santa Monica, CA alone.
Those who sign up for the Starbucks Rewards program, which is about 35% of Starbucks' customers, receive a free annual drink on their birthdays. And other rewards as well.
