Wednesday the 3rd of October witnessed perhaps the most awaited of all re-openings of any mall in the US in recent times. High end shopping complex, Australian giant shopping brand, Westfield's unveiled their newly renovated complex in Century City. And boy did they put on a show.
The evening's festivities started with a Mayoral press conference in the complex itself with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti along with Westfield's co-owners Australian businessmen, Peter and Steven Lowy. Mr. Garcetti congratulated the group and touted it as yet another feather in LA's cap along with the recent Olympic bid win. Peter Lowy made the remark that in conjunction with the upcming 2028 Olympic games to be held in LA, the first gold medal goes to the Mayor and the City of LA for its support in nurturing the expansion of this complex and making it happen.
The opening night party sported a "California Soul" theme and was an exclusive event featuring cocktails, dancing and performance from some incredible musical acts. The guests were all brought to their feet by incredible performances by bands DNCE, Fitz and The Tantrums as well as Iconic 70's pop group Village People. Other celebrity VIPS's included will.i.am, Debbie Allen, Wallis Annenberg, Metta World Peace, Lawrence Zarian, Gillian Wynn and Gary Linfoot with his foundation infinite Hero foundation.
William Hetch, the CEO for the Westfield group in the USA reinforced the vision for century city. "With the very best in food, fashion, health, art and music, Westfield Century City will be like no other place in Los Angeles.
The Westfield was designed by acclaimed LA designer Kelly Wearstler who had the grand task of orchestrating an "open-air escape" like no other. The Westfield Group has long been known to partner with great causes over all its locations internationally. In usual fashion, the Century City location has shared its opening night celebration with a great cause- The Infinite Hero Foundation. The foundation supports returning military and their families and provides the, with funds and initiatives with challenging issues, both metal and physical. These are set up to help with accessibility to treatments for service- related injuries and traumas.
Touted as perhaps the best shopping destination in the west coast, potentially all of the US, this Westfield is sure to impress shoppers with a unique mix of carefully curated retail, food, wellness and cinematic offerings. With over 200 stores and restaurants, including Bloomingdales, Macys, Nordstrom's, Equinox and the west coasts first Celebrity chef Mario Batalis' Eataly, the $1 billion renovation will offer a shopping and dining experience like no other. Perhaps the most unique addition to the Westfield Century City is an open air 18,000 square foot, state of the art venue called 'The Atrium', which could be used to accommodate large scale red carpet premieres and intimate events alike.
Other unique features include the world first permanent ride share station, expanded parking facilities including smart parking, partnerships with Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and Annenberg Center for Photography showcasing art sculptures and an innovative hospitality and concierge services offering a wide array of luxury services offered to its shoppers. The hospitality program also includes studio services, connecting, fashion designers, retailers as well as an additional suite reserved just for VIPS guests and celebrities.
