LiveCams, WebCams from Key West Florida Suddenly Go Offline

Boston.com offers readers 6 free webcams they can watch from Key West Florida. Don't read too much into this, but the Live Webcam broadcasts from Key West Florida suddenly went offline.

Liveweb cams on Google's Youtube service are also offline. This apparently means the feed, or perhaps the power, has been cut. As I write this, Hurricane Irma is 78 miles from Key West and appears to be heading directly for the island city, home of La Conchas.

The lost WebCams are titled "Live Southern Most Beach Resort, Live Two Friends Roof Top Key West, Mallory Square Key West, Live Marathon Fla Cam, and Waterfront Web Cam.

The island has been evacuated, though a handful of police, homeless people, journalists and others remain. Key West is 7.3 miles in area, about the size of Santa Monica, and ordinarily has a population of 26,000 people. It is at the West end of the overseas highway from Key Largo.

Decades ago, Key West was known for hippies. The hippies were replaced in the 1980's by extremely expensive homes, and pricey hotels.
