Certification empowers fishermen domestically and around the world
Roger O'Brien, CEO of Santa Monica Seafood, announced that, after six months of intense effort and working closely with Bristol Seafood, Santa Monica Seafood's primary scallop producer and 2016 Vendor of the Year, it is ready to begin distribution of its own, private-labeled Fair Trade Certified™ sea scallops.
Fair Trade Certified™ Santa Monica Seafood scallops are not only all-natural, wild caught and highly sustainable, they are domestically produced using an integrated traceability system which is subject to independent, third party auditing. Fair Trade Certified™ scallops provide peace of mind that social and environmental responsibility is matched only by the quality of the scallop itself. Fair Trade certification empowers fishermen domestically and around the world, keeping families, local communities, and the natural environment strong today and for generations to come.
Roger O'Brien commented that, "We are proud to be the first seafood distributor to offer a Fair Trade Certified™ scallop to our retail customers in the western U.S. We have worked closely with the quality-conscious seafood buyers at Albertsons and Vons grocery markets in southern California to begin shipments to them no later than April, and we will be offering these to our other grocery customers as well."
"Bristol Seafood, Albertsons/Vons and Santa Monica Seafood have all played a significant role in working together to bring these Fair Trade Certified™ scallops to market."
