"Pestaurant" brings new meaning to the term roach coach.
Western Exterminator Company, one of the nation's leading pest control company, has partnered with Mondo Taco to show that insects aren't always pests – sometimes they are delicious. On Saturday, October 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Western Exterminator and Mondo Taco will host a pop-up "Pestaurant" at the Santa Monica Third Street Promenade.
Menu items will be made of bugs and includes "Jamaican Me Hoppy Jerked Seasoned Grasshoppers with Pineapple Salsa", "Deep South BBQ Beetle Tacos", "Thai Mai Mealworm Salad" and "Rice Cricket Treats" and even a sweet and savory dessert, "Chocolate Goes with Everything".
The "Pestaurant" is designed to raise awareness of pests and draw attention to the fact that while they can be very destructive and a nuisance, they can also be a low-impact, sustainable and nutritious protein alternative. For each bug dish sampled Western Exterminator will donate $1 to the Westside Food Bank, with a goal of donating at minimum $3,000.
