Disabled woman's family had raised money to buy Scooter for her last year.
Santa Monica resident Rita Payne had her motorized scooter stolen by thieves. Thieves broke into her rented garage at 32nd Street and Pico Blvd.
The theives cut a chain designed to prevent theft, and stole the motorized scooter worth $3,000 to $4,000. It happened Monday night at 8:44, said KTTV. The Santa Monica Police Department is investigating the crime.
Just last year, the disabled woman's family had raised funds to buy the scooter for Payne, 61. She needed to use the scooter because of degenerative diseases from years as a hair dresser caused her to have mobility issues.

This story has reported several incorrect statements. I live in this complex where the scooter was stolen. Her disease is not due to years as a hairdresser. Thieves stole from our carport. A lock was not left on. The scooter was $1800. Very misleading and false details! NBC reported more accurate. Whomever wrote this was 100% incorrect. Local papers should never be misleading
