US Gov't Hands the Keys to the Ladies Room Door to Men

New policy will apply to more than 9,000 federal buildings in more than 2,000 US cities.

The federal government is opening all bathrooms in national buildings managed by the Government Services Administration (GSA) to use by transgender individuals. Under the new policy released by the GSA, employees and visitors to these properties must be allowed to use the bathrooms that match their alleged gender identity.

Not satisfied with simply allowing transgender people to use the bathrooms opposite their biological sex, the regulation explicitly forbids providing single-user bathrooms in order to accommodate transgender-identifying individuals. They must be allowed to enter multi-user bathrooms of the gender of their self-described identity.

The policy will apply to more than 9,000 federal buildings in more than 2,000 cities across the United States. This includes federal courthouses, Social Security offices, and the Department of Veteran Affairs. The GSA does not control the U.S. Capitol or the national parks so this policy will not necessarily extend to these areas, but given the bent of the present administration it is unlikely these domains will remain transgender-unfriendly for long.

Published on August 18, the regulations states, "All federal agencies occupying property operated under, or subject to, the authorities of GSA must not discriminate by segregation or otherwise against any person or persons because of race, creed, religion, age, sex, color, disability, or national origin in furnishing, or by refusing to furnish to such person or persons the use of any facility of a public nature, including all services, privileges, accommodations, and activities provided on the property."

Transgender individuals are not the same as "intersex" people, those born with physical characteristics that make identification of their biological gender ambiguous. Transgender persons cite possible physiological or psychological factors that cause them to identify with the gender opposite their chromosomal classification.

Wikipedia estimates there are approximately 0.3 percent of adults in the United States who call themselves transgender.

Groups opposed to allowing biologically identifiable men to use women's restrooms are, by and large, not concerned about the very small number of true transsexuals who choose to switch bathrooms. Of greater concern are the far greater number of male predators who may claim to be transsexual and use this self-selected identification as a license to accost and attack women in the relative privacy of a public bathroom.

In general, men are stronger than women and can in most cases successfully rape an unwilling female.

"This regulation by the federal government is unbelievable," said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit organization that provides free legal counsel for preserving religious freedom and the sanctity of life and family. "Not only is this new policy by the GSA wrong and unlawful, it also places government employees and visitors in these buildings at greater risk for sexual assault. The GSA's actions lack common sense and violate the law. The GSA never published this new regulation for public comment before announcing the change. This regulation is beyond the authority of the GSA to unilaterally impose on the American people," said Staver.
