Bernie Sanders Knocks the Convention Dead with speech attacking the 1%

Senator Bernie Sanders walked out to address the convention looking like the Democratic nominee. The music playing was "We've all come to look for America" by Paul Simon.

We all know the story. Starting out polling about 6%, the progressive Vermonter, who had been an independent most of his career, started the primary season polling around 6%. The white haired 72 year old ended the primary season in Santa Monica's Barker Hanger, with 1846 pledge delegates. He earned 70% of the youth vote and 43 % of the popular vote.

Looking very muh like the grand father you wish you had, the one who would give you everything if only he could; Bernie Sanders addressed the crowd as follows:

Thank you. It is an honor too be here tonight

It is an honor to be here tonight following in the footsteps of my good friend Elizabeth Warren, and to be here tonight to thank Michelle Obama for her incredible service to this country. She has made all of us proud

Let me begin by thanking the hundreds of thousands of Americans who actively participated in our campaign, especially the volunteers

Let me thank the 2.5 million Americans who helped fund our campaign with an unprecedented 8 million campaign contributions that averaged (smiles at the crowd, waiting for it) that's right, $27.

And let me thank the 13 million Americans who voted for the political revolution, giving us the 1846 pledged delegates here tonight.

And delegates, thank you for being here, and thank you for all the work you have done. I look forward to your votes during the roll call tomorrow night.

And let me offer a special tanks to the people of my own state of Vermont, who have sustained me as a mayor, Senator and presidential candidates. And to my family my wife Jane, to our 4 kids and 7 grandchildren, who were so patient with me. Thank you very much

I am aware that many people are disappointed by the results of the voting tonight. To al of our supporters around the country, I hope you take enormous pride in the historical accomplishments we have achieved. Together my friends we have begun a political revoluviton to transform america. And that revolution, our revolution, continues.

Election days come and go bu the struggle of all of us to create a government which represents all of us, not just the 1%, a govt of environmental racial social justice, that struggle continues. And I look forward to continuing that struggle with you

Let me be clear with you. This struggle has never been about Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump or any of the other candidates. It's not about fundraising, or any of the things that the media spends so much time discussing. This election is about and myst be about the need of the American people, and the kind of future we create for our children and our grandchildren.

This election is about ending the 40 year decline of our middle class. The reality that 47 million men women and children live in poverty. The reality that the top 1% now make more than the bottom 90% put together.

This election is about ending the gross level of income and wealth inequality in America today.

It is not moral, it is not acceptable it is not sustainable that the top 1 tenth of 1%, now owns as much as the bottom 90%, or that the top one percent has earned 80% of all new income.

This election is about remembering where we were 7.5 years ago, after 8 years of Republican trickle down economics. The Republicans want us to forget that as a result of the reckless behavior on wall street, our economy was on the worst downturn since the great depression

800,000 people a month were losing their jobs, 1.4Trillion a month deficit, the world economic system was on the verge of a collapse

I thank President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for their leadership in pulling us out of that terrible recession. But I think we can all agree that much much more needs to be done. This election is about which candidate understands the real problems facing this country, and has offered real solutions. Not just fear mongering and divisiveness, not just name calling, not just bombast,

We need leadership that will address the real needs of the poor. We need leadership that brings our people together and makes us stronger. Not just leadership which insults latinos and Mexicans, African Americans and Muslims, Veterans and gays.

By these measures any objective observer will conclude that based on her ideas, Hillary Clinton must become the next President of the United States.

This election is about a single mother I saw in Nevada, where a singled mother told me she was not making it based on the $10.45 she was earning. She should not be living in poverty. She understand that she must raise the minimum wage, to a living wage. A person who works 49 hours a week, that person should not be living in poverty. She understands that we should be rebuilding our bridges and infrastructure.

But DT her opponent has a different point of view. While Trump believes in huge tax cuts for billionaires, he believes states should actually have the right

Her opponent Donald Trump has a different point of view. He does not believe in raising the mimimim wage from $7.45 an hour not a living wage

He believes states should have the right to lower the minimum wage below $7.25

Brothers and sisters this election is about overturning citizens united. It is one of the worst Supreme Court decisions in the History of our country. That decision allows some of the wealthiest people in our country like the billionaire Coke brothers, to spend hundreds of millions of dollars buying elections, in the process under ing our democracy.

Hillary clinton will appoint supreme court justices who are prepared to overturn Citizens United, and end the movement toward oligarchy that we are seeing in this country

Her supreme court appointees will also defend a woman's right the choose, orders rights, the rights of the LGBT community, the needs of minorities and immigrants, and the governments ability to protect our environment.

If you don't believe that this election is important, that you can sit this one out, think about the sc justices that DT would appoint, and what this would mean to cilvil rights and the future of our country.

This election is about the millions I have met who left college deeply in debt, and the millions that I have met who cannot afford to go to college. Recently I have come together on a proposal that will revolutionize higher education in America

It will guarantee that the children of any parents in this country with an income of $125k a year or less, 83% of our population will be able to go to a college or university tuition free

That proposal also substantially reduces student debt

This election is about climate change, the great environmental crisis facing our planet and the need to leave this world in a way that is healthy and habitable for our children and for future generations. Hillary Clinton is listening to the scientists who tell us that unless we act boldly to change the energy system that powers our country, there will be more drought, more floods,
