SMMUSD Appoints Lissette Bravo new SamoHi House Principal

Former English teacher at Leuzinger High School in Lawndale

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education approved the appointment of Lissette Bravo as a new santa monica high school house principal at its May 19, 2016 meeting.

Bravo comes to SMMUSD from Poway High School where she has been assistant principal since 2012. She is also currently the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) district director to Poway High School and two middle schools since 2013.

She began her teaching career as an English teacher at Leuzinger High School in Lawndale in 2004 becoming the English department chair in 2006. During her employment there she served as club advisor, school site council member and Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) support provider. She served as WASC accreditation coordinator and as a committee member for Poway High as well as the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) coordinator. Bravo has utilized the Restorative Justice program, currently also in practice at Samohi.

Bravo received the Bronze Award from the California Association Future Farmers of America for providing exemplary support to Poway High School FFA Chapter, awarded to a school administrator each year.

Bravo holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in political science from Loyola Marymount University, a Master of Arts in secondary education from LMU and a Master of Arts in educational administration from Cal State Northridge. She is fluent in speaking and writing in Spanish.

"I am ecstatic to be given the opportunity to work at Samohi," Bravo said. "My main goal is to provide students with the resources they need to reach their educational dreams. I am looking forward to collaborating with the Samohi team towards the continued effort of achieving academic excellence."
