PIlgrim's Pride Brand Reports Wood, Metal & Plastic in Brand
Pilgrim's Pride company has issued a wide scale recall of chicken products after consumers and federal meat inspectors found contamination by such foreign material as wood, plastic, rubber and metal. Only the cooked chicken products from the brand are affected.
The recall of more than 4.5 million pounds of pre- cooked chicken products ordered Tuesday, expands a recall of almost 41,000 pounds of cooked chicken nugget products announced April 7.
A statement from the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture indicates that the recall involves products bearing the establishment number "EST.20728" which may be found next to the USDA inspection mark on the product.
Pilgrims Pride company products affected were shipped nationwide and intended for institutional use, and records from the Waco, Texas-based company show schools purchased the products through Pilgrim's Pride commercial suppliers and buyers.
No confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consumption of the products have been reported.
