The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center announces its highly anticipated 2015/16 season featuring leading productions and artists from around the globe and free concerts and performances in neighborhoods across Los Angeles.
Now in its 8th season, The Broad Stage will be presenting some of the most exciting theater to come out of London with the US premiere of George Orwell’s 1984 by Headlong Theatre Company, along with a triple bill of Beckett’s Not I, Footfalls, and Rockaby by Irish actress Lisa Dwan after a successful run at The Royal Court Theatre. The 2015/16 season also features the return of the wildly popular musical theatre group Isango Ensemble in a wholly South African production of Carmen; recital performances by opera virtuosos Angela Gheorghiu and Piotr Beczała; the launch of a three-year Beethoven concert cycle by Calder Quartet; and expanded offerings in classical music, National Geographic Live, and family programming.
New this season, The Broad Stage will be presenting a series of surprise pop-up concerts and performances around Los Angeles to engage new audiences and celebrate the joy of live performance. Pop-up artists and locations will be announced and streamed live through social media so audience members near and far can participate in the experience.
