Each year, the GRACIE gift shop expands for the holidays, filling to the brim with artful, one-of-a-kind gifts hand-selected by the Santa Monica Museum of Art’s retail curator. Opening day shoppers will enjoy cider, cookies, lots of good cheer, and unique gifts and items to delight the entire family. They will find unique gifts and items to delight the entire family in SMMoA’s holiday wonderland, including art objects, toys, and jewelry. All proceeds support SMMoA’s exhibitions and programs. Family Hands on History Day
November 15 - December 20
3rd Saturdays,11am-2pm
On the third Saturday of every month, the Museum invites families to Hands On History Day. Children, ages 6 & up, will be led into galleries to learn about the particular history theme for the day. Once the brief lesson is complete, they will return to the lobby for a related, historic craft. By creating something with their hands related to the history topic of the month, children will further create memories based upon their history lessons. Families can expect a fun-filled learning hour at the History Museum!

Odd Nerdum ‘Pupils of Apelles’

Copro Gallery presents an exhibition by master artist Odd Nerdrum with a collection of his latest works. Several of Odd Nerdrum’s students will also exhibit a collection of their current paintings inspired by time at the Nerdrum school in Norway and by legendary old masters artist Apelles. Odd Nerdrum (born April 8, 1944 in Helsingborg, Sweden), is a Norwegian figurative painter. Themes and style in Nerdrum’s work reference anecdote and narrative. His works evoke the painters Rembrandt and Caravaggio, and include still life paintings of small, everyday objects, portraits and self-portraits, and large paintings allegorical and apocalyptic in nature.

Mary Poppins

The winds of change blow in when Mary Poppins, nanny extraordinaire, takes a nanny job for the Banks family. While she teaches the children about compassion and understanding, she also teaches their father that quite often the most important things in life are right in front of you. Filled with song and dance, Mary, Bert and the Banks will entertain you while melting your heart. This is a Creating Arts Company Mini Musical, which is a one hour interactive-cinematic-theatrical-musical experience that is fun for the entire family and will entertain adults as well as children ages 3 and up! Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Experience the action packed adventure of the story of the magical flying car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! When eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts fixes up a car that his two children, Jeremy and Jemima, want him to save from the junk man he soon realizes it’s not just a car but a phantasmagorical machine. With the help of Truly Scrumptious, Caractacus and his children climb aboard Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to rescue Grandpa Potts from the evil Baron Bomburst and find out teamwork and a magical car will work every time! One of Creating Arts Company’s Jr. Broadway series shows designed for children ages ten and up and their families. This show runs one hour and forty-five minutes with a ten minute intermission. The Aristocats

When mamma cat Dutchess finds herself lost in the French Countryside with her children she doesn’t know what to do until she meets the alley cat Thomas O’Malley and his rag-tag bunch! Luckily for the Dutchess Thomas and his friends have a clear plan to help her and her kittens find their way back home! This production is part of Creating Arts Company’s “Twinkle Theater,” created to introduce children ages six months to four years to musical theater in a way that is non-threatening for the little ones and designed to keep their attention and keep them entertained, with fast-paced singing and dancing, bright lights and no black-outs or scene changes. ONO’U International Street Art Exhibit

In collaboration with the Alliance Française of Los Angeles, ONO’U invites guests, Angelenos and travelers alike to discover a selection of the finest artworks created during of the world’s largest international graffiti competition of the year that took place in French Polynesia last May. The exhibition will offer a unique opportunity to discover the island of Tahiti through photos and time lapse videos revealing the amazing mural art walk created in the city center of Papeete by some of today’s living legends of the worldwide street art scene among which MadC, Inti, Sofles, Soten, Askew, Dabs&Myla, Kem5, to name a few.

Stogie Kenyatta’s The World is My Home – The Life of Paul Robeson

Powerful and poignant, heartfelt and humorous, and to celebrate the third night of Kwaanza, Santa Monica Playhouse is proud to present a one night engagment of film, television and stage personality Stogie Kenyatta’s acclaimed 2013 NAACP Solo Show Award-Winning show about African-American artist-activist Paul Robeson. Robeson – internationally renowned actor, recording artist, concert singer, football player, All-American athlete and Phi Beta Kappa Society laureate at Rutgers University, was witness to the artistic wonders of the Harlem Renaissance and the Jazz/Be-bop era, the horrors of the slave trade, the shame of the Holocaust, McCarthyism, blacklists, racism and oppression. His life’s work celebrates our common humanity as he fought globally for social justice.

State of the City
