Shakespeare’s Wronged Women

A trauma therapy session involving Lady Macbeth, Cleopatra, Juliet Capulet, Ophelia, Titania? Director Stewart McGill’s new staging blends powerful dramatic encounters, movement and sound as the women relive their experiences and share their journeys. Across Shakespeare’s plays women are often the victims, pawns and mysterious figures. Will Shakespeare’s Wronged Women discover whether they are as wronged as perceived? Part of the Santa Monica Playhouse 2015 “Hands Across the Sea Free Festival of Theatre celebrating the Bard’s 450th birthday, “Shakespeare’s Wronged Women” features England’s renowned Playbox Theatre and the Shakespeare Young Company. Suitable for ages 11 to adult.

Day of the Dead

Join us for a traditional Mexican celebration, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), where family and friends gather to honor and celebrate loved ones that have passed. The event focuses on the traditions that make up this celebration of life and death. There are a vareity of ways participants can discover the philosophy and history of the day inlcuding an opening procession led by Ketzaliztli dancers, a workshop to create offerings of marigold coronitas (crowns) and papel picado (perforated paper) for loved ones who have passed, self -guided tours of the cemetery that explore the history of local famous people, a documentary on how a small town in Mexico prepares for the holiday, a traditional Nahuatl ceremonial blessing and musicians performing throughout the cemetery to honor those who have passed. There will be free admission, bike valet and parking.

Neil Young Special Deluxe Exibit at Robert Berman Gallery

Robert Berman Gallery is pleased to present Special Deluxe a series of unique watercolor paintings and prints by Neil Young. This exhibition is presented in conjunction with Young’s recent book release: Special Deluxe: A Memoir of Life & Cars. Throughout Special Deluxe vehicles serve as central characters and are illustrated throughout the pages of the text. The unique watercolors as created by Young will be on exhibit through the month of November 2014 with a reception with the Artist on Monday November 3, 2014 from 7-9pm.

After 12 years in New York and Philadelphia, Green Light Productions has relocated to Los Angeles. Green Light is dedicated to producing and developing new plays by women. For its first West Coast production - GLO (Green Light One-Acts) - it accepted submissions from only Los Angeles-based women playwrights. The response was overwhelming and after a careful selection process, four plays were selected that are not only incredibly well-written but also funny, powerful, sharp and entertaining.
