Community, Diversity, Sustainability and other Overused Words
Dear Samohi Families,
It is with great pleasure that I announce that Dr. Regina Zurbano will serve as the new House Principal at Santa Monica High School!
Dr. Zurbano comes to SMMUSD from the Beverly Hills Unified School District, where she has been serving as the Assistant Principal for the past year. She also currently serves as a WASC Visiting Committee Member. Prior to that, she served as the Assistant Principal at Fallbrook Union High School in the Fallbrook Union High School District. Dr. Zurbano has taught chemistry at the high school and university (graduate teaching assistant) level. As Assistant Principal, Dr. Zurbano was responsible for special education, school registration, state assessment programs, the integration of educational technology, planning the master calendar, WASC visits, and summer school programming.
Dr. Zurbano’s focus as a school site leader is to ensure and enhance student academic success by establishing, maintaining, and sustaining a learning environment that encourages students to discover and develop their passions and prepare for life in the 21st Century global environment. To achieve this, she employs research-based instructional practices, highly qualified and trained educators with collective goals, networks of communication between the school and the community, and evidence-based decision-making that includes voices from various stakeholder groups. Dr. Zurbano is on the constant look out for ways to expand students’ learning experiences in order to make their school activities rich and meaningful.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Zurbano to SMMUSD for 2014-15!
Sincerely,
Sandra Lyon
Superintendent
