Man Stabbed by Woman
Santa Monica Police say on July 22, 2014, at approximately 9:40 a.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of Ocean Front Walk after a caller reported a man had just been stabbed by a woman.
The officers say they quickly located the victim, who was belligerent and refused to cooperate with the investigation into his injury, a small puncture wound under his left nipple. Lawmen say the victim also refused medical treatment. Authorities say a witness to the incident pointed out the suspect, Cynthia Cantrell who was sitting on a bench about thirty feet from the victim. They say Cantrell admitted the victim was her boyfriend and that they had been arguing, but would not give the officers any details. Officers say they found the knife used in the attack and collected it as evidence. They say Cantrell was arrested for inflicting corporal injury on a significant other, a violation of probation, and four misdemeanor warrants issued by other agencies in the area.
Theft Reported at Rite Aid
Santa Monica Police say on July 22, 2014, at approximately 4:25 p.m., officers responded to a theft investigation at the Rite Aid, 1331 Wilshire Boulevard. Officers say loss prevention told them the suspect, David Wells had just fled and security officers were following him northbound on Euclid Street and then west on California Avenue.
Lawmen report Wells was detained by police officers at 10th Street and California Avenue. They say one of the loss prevention officers reported Wells took a bottle of liquor from a store shelf and hide it under his sweatshirt and walked out of the store without paying for the alcohol. Authorities say store employees stopped Wells on the sidewalk and retrieved the liquor bottle; when Wells appeared to acquiesce to a request to return to the store to wait for police, but then broke away and ran off. Officers say they arrested Wells for petty theft and three outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
2nd Theft Reported at Rite Aid
Santa Monica police say n July 22, 2014, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a second call of a robbery at same locatiom, the Rite Aid, 1331 Wilshire Boulevard. This time they say the caller informed dispatchers that initially the suspect, Cornelius Sweet, was cooperating with employees at the store; however, within a few minutes Sweet started struggling and began to fight with loss prevention officers.
The police officers say they found Sweet and employees in the stock room of the store, with the Sweet being detained in the corner. Lawmen report Sweet cooperated with the police and was handcuffed without additional incident. They say a loss prevention officer monitoring the sales floor saw Sweet taking two bags of chips and a bottle of liquor from store shelves, hiding the merchandise in his backpack, and then walking out of the store without paying and when thy attempted to detain Sweet outside of the store Sweet attempted to punch, scratch and push the employees in an attempt to get his backpack from them and flee. Lawmen say because Sweet used force to try and maintain control of the items he had stolen, he was arrested for attempted robbery (reduced to a misdemeanor) and transported to the Santa Monica Jail for booking.
