Leaders of The Georgian Hotel presented the Santa Monica Conservancy a check for $7,200 as part of a fundraising event held at the historic hotel in October.
“We’re just delighted,” said Carol Lemlein, conservancy president. “The Georgian has been a strong partner. And this is where we bring visitors and residents to participate in the downtown walking tours.”
The Georgian, built in 1933, celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. Former guests included Clark Gable, Carol Lombard and Rudolph Valentine. Later on it became a senior residents, at which time Rose Kennedy rented a room on occasion.
Co-owner Ted Broedlow said the hotel tries to maintain a connection to the era. Plans are in the works to renovate a downstairs former speak easy. And they already enjoy recent changes to the veranda overlooking the ocean.
“This is a great location and it’s a great city to be part of,” Broedlow said.
