Photo of Alleged Library Dog-Napper Released

Santa Monica Police on Tuesday released the surveillance photo of a woman apparently stealing a dog.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of October 25 behind the Santa Monica Library. Tibor Mozes Ambrus, the dog's owner, had to leave the dog outside because the library only allows service animals inside. A woman is seen on the surveillance video taking the black female terrier named Hepi, but the video was of poor quality and had little evidentiary value, Sgt. Jay Moroso said.

Ambrus has claimed that police told him that the woman in the video is a known dog thief in the area. He has set up a blog to help spread the word about the dog-napping and to help bring Hepi, whom he refers to as his sister, back home.

If you have any information about Hepi's whereabouts, contact Santa Monica Police at (310) 458-8491. For more information about Hepi, visit find2friends.blogspot.com.
