We don't have a lot of choice with consumer checking accounts, the pariah of banking. Banks regard checking accounts as loss leaders, so they can peddle mortgages to a customer base. A banker told me that years ago. But today, I'm under the impression that the rate at which banks seize their own customers' accounts because of "fraud," is astounding. It's illegal, but no one does anything about it. That's probably because consumers have so few banking choices. In California, 80% of consumer...
A report has come out regarding the resources spent promoting Islamophobia that would be humorous if it were not so disturbing. Produced as a joint project of the Council on Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the UC Berkeley Center for Race and Gender, the report is titled "Confronting Fear: Islamophobia and its Impact on the U.S. 2013-2015." According to Legal Insurrection, the document contains a lengthy list of groups that CAIR claims spread hate of Muslims, including Fox News, the Washington...

Legislation being considered currently in the California State Assembly would sharply curtail the ability of religious colleges to direct the education of non-clerical students. Sponsored by state Senator Ricardo Lara, who identifies as part of the legislature's LGBT caucus, the bill, SB1146, would restrict religious exemptions currently given for federal Title IX regulations. These exemptions have until now applied to all students who attend religious colleges and allow colleges to require...

At the end of Season 3, Penny Dreadful appears to climax with the death of female lead Vanessa Ives (Eva Green). She concludes that she must die to save the world, and that her one love, Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) must pull the trigger. If that weren't heartbreaking enough, in a parallel plot John Clare decides not to ask Dr. Frankenstein to resurrect his son, Jack, who like Lilly, has died of consumption. But I digress. The point of this article is to answer the question every Penny...
