    Peggy Clifford died on March 1, 2017, of congestive heart failure at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. The nationally known author of "To Aspen and Back" was 87. She had a hand in founding the Mirror Newspaper in 1998, after editing the first issue of the Santa Monica Observer. That last fact is seldom noted; she is the one person who tied together the Observer and Mirror.
