  • Peak Bagging In the New Mexico Wilderness With Leroy the Dog.

Eric Smith, Special to the Observer|Jan 11, 2021

This winter I've been driving places to go Peak Bagging with Leroy the Dog. Two hours south of Albuquerque and just south of Socorro NM, we climbed 3 peaks 1800 feet of vertical gain. It was sunny and the air was clean and beautiful. Leroy is a wonderful dog, but he's maybe a little older now, and so am I. We have had to cut it to 3 peaks over 7 miles. We used to do almost twice that. He's very gung ho, looking around for animals and watching them run. Leroy's big on rabbits. We saw giant...

    Stan Greene, Observer Staff Writer|Jan 11, 2021

The person with the nuclear codes has been deemed too dangerous to have a twitter account, as the Social Media giant locked down the president's account for 12 hours. "I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!" tweeted @realdonaldtrump at 11 am EST. "I can assure you that my departure from office is going to be very boring." Tweeted Angela Merkel. *...

    Noa Krop, Girl Scouts|Jan 11, 2021

Soccer and Girl Scouts have been a big part of my life, so when Covid limited previous ways of participating in both for most of 2020, I started to think about new ways to stay involved. I turned to earning my Girl Scout Gold Award through a project I called "Patching Together a Safe Return to Soccer." The idea was to better understand issues of health and safety in youth group sports, particularly during the pandemic, support girls' leadership development, encourage girls to stay active to prom...

  • Putting Covid Deaths Into Perspective: Did Covid Kill More than a War, and is the United States Really Worse than Other Countries in Dealing with the Disease?

    Corva Corvax, A Logical Opinion|Jan 11, 2021

At an intimate Zoom gathering I attended recently, a medical doctor, an educated woman who considered herself well-informed, told the group that nothing short of a war could have killed as many Americans as Covid-19. Nobody dared contradict the doctor. I don't think anyone considered the statement inaccurate. Of course, it was completely false. As we end one year of pandemic and begin the next one that will undoubtedly also be marred by the effects, direct and indirect of the SARS-CoV-2 virus,...

  • In a Stunning Move With Historic Implications, Twitter Permanently Suspends @realdonaldtrump

    Stan Greene, Observer Staff Writer|Jan 11, 2021

In a stunning move, Twitter Inc has announced the "Permanent suspension of @realDonaldTrump." The President who came to power using Twitter to communicate with his base without going through the main stream media, leaves power just 11 days after Twitter kicked him out. The carefully crafted release at www.twitter.com seems to be saying that Mr. Trump's tweets lead directly to the events at the US Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021. This despite the fact that Trump's actual tweets did not directly...
